Rest in Peace Bill “Asabat” Jeffrey

I first met Bill “Asabat” Jeffrey about 9 years ago when hiking a section of the PCT just above Soledad Canyon with my father Glen. He had left some cold sodas in the shade of a bush for us pointed out by an arrow in the sand; and eventually met up with us further down the trail to buy us ice cream. This is one of many instances showing what a kind and caring man Bill Jeffrey was and he will be dearly missed by many.

On Friday, Aug.10, Bill “AsABat” Jeffrey was found peaceful, in his sleeping bag, in his tent, at Charlton Lake in Oregon.  At 54, he was too young for many of us to consider passing…

A thoughtful requiem has been posted to the PCTA website.

Life is a fleeting, wonderful voyage. This has been said many times, in ways far more artful than I can express, but I believe it and try to live every day by this principle. I am sure Bill did also. Sincere regrets to those who loved him. Steve Jennette

This is very sad news, he was such a great guy. The kickoff party will never be the same without him .

Bill was responsible for getting me involved with the KO. I will miss hiking with him, and registration next year won’t be the same without him. He was going to retire and finish the trail next year, then do the JMT over again.

I am saddened. The PCT community has lost a great person. As abat will be missed. My thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.
