Like her husband Will Rietveld, Janet "BunsOfSteel" Reichl has been a lifelong backpacking (and canoeing) enthusiast. She grew up in Wisconsin where she was a member of a Girl Scout Mariner group that went on canoe trips all over the Northwoods.
Since their marriage, Will and Janet have enjoyed a special bond through ultralight backpacking. They originally made a lot of their own gear and now give annual presentations on lightweight backpacking and lightweight cooking. She has been a Forest Service volunteer since 1998 as a Wilderness Information Specialist where she backpacks in the Weminuche Wilderness in Southern Colorado and chats with backpackers she meets on the trail to provide information about Leave No Trace principles. Janet also participates in Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado trail projects, and does a lot of trail, backcountry, and roadside cleanup.
