Our Brand Ambassadors serve as a source of inspiration and we are excited to announce a new series where you'll get a chance to see what's in their packs! First up, Whitney "Allgood" LaRuffa shares his gear list for his 2016 hike of the Continental Divide Trail.

img_6390The following gear was used during the last two months of my Thru-hike of the CDT, ending September 9th. The main area of use was through the Wind River Range in Wyoming north to the trail's end in Glacier National Park / /> img_7467The terrain varied from high alpine mountains in the summer, to wide open sagebrush-covered peaks in Idaho and Montana. The last stretch of trail found me in deep river valleys in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and then varied terrain in Glacier National Park.img_7803

Temperatures varied widely during these months. Night time temperatures were often below freezing with frost in the mornings and daytime temperatures were on the mild side, topping out in the mid 80's. I expected to encounter mostly dry western summer conditions with occasional rain storms, to my surprise I did encounter a fair amount of rain/snow mix the last week on trail.

One challenge in this section of trail was long waterless stretches in Montana and even longer food carries through grizzly bear country. For my bear system I used an Ursack and carried bear spray. Read about my CDT hike and more at The Dago Diaries.
